Shift Happens and Vision of Students

After watching Shift Happens and Vision of Students Today, I realized that I fit in perfectly with what they say. Unfortunately, I feel that in a sense I should not fit in. I feel that technology is bad, but at the same time good for a child. I am pro con to the concept, but as a future educator I’m happy and scared to teach in the future.
The only thing that inspires me to become a teacher is having the ability to make a difference in children’s lives and shape their lives in a positive way. Seeing children thrive in life is incredible. I want to integrate the arts to my classroom, have numerous activities, performances, pizza parties and so many other things that make children happy and love learning at the same time. I want to be the teacher who inspires students, but at the same time is the teacher who is inspired by her students. Teaching is a journey that BOTH the teacher and the students go on; together they make a difference and become successful.
However, there is a vision that contradicts my inspirations for the future; that is the future of technology. It upsets me and makes me at the same time nervous. I don’t want my future students to ignore or not remember the standard classroom with decorations and activities. It makes me nervous how technology now is overpowering everyone’s lives. If technology did not exist today, many people would not know what to do. The world would become chaotic. It is unfortunate the dependence we have on technology and the worst part is that our dependence on technology is increasing rapidly. Instead of technology “saving us,” it can become our downfall.
